Fastback Server Comments Off on Recovering the default admin password for the FastBack Manager

Problem(Abstract)

Unable to login to the FastBack server due to invalid password error.

Symptom

When attempting to login to the FastBack Manager, an invalid user/password error is displayed.

Cause

Corruption in the FastBack configuration file that contain the Passwords.

User forgot the Password

Resolving the problem

If the password for the FastBack “admin” account has been lost, the only way to login to the FastBack Manager is by resetting all users and passwords to default.

For this solution, it will be necessary to have a default installation of a FastBack server on a different system. Users and passwords are kept in a file called “users_enc.txt”. You will have to replace the “users_enc.txt” and “users_enc.txt.sig” on the FastBack system with the two matching files from the default installation. The default location for these files can be found under:

       C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\Server    or    C:\ProgramData\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\server

To replace the files follow these steps:
1. Stop the FastBack Server service.
2. Replace the “users_enc.txt” and “users_enc.txt.sig” files under each of the following locations:

  • Older Windows versions (prior to 2008): C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\Server C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\Server\Mirror
  • Windows version 2008 C:\ProgramData\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\server C:\ProgramData\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\server\Mirror
  • The root folder of all repositories

3. Start the FastBack Server service.4. Log in with the default “admin” User and Password; then update the password to a non-default value before continuing with product usage.
